Each directory in detail
Unyly
71,972+ serversThe largest MCP catalog: aggregates the Official MCP Registry, GitHub, npm, PyPI, crates.io, Docker, Smithery, Glama and PulseMCP into one deduplicated index with one-click install into Cursor, VS Code, Claude Desktop, Claude Code, ChatGPT and claude.ai, free security scans on every server, live remote-health checks, and a hosted gateway.
▸ One-click install into every major client (incl. ChatGPT / claude.ai), security scans, comparisons, hosted runners and gateway, updated every few hours.
unyly.orgGlama
67,600+ serversOne of the largest crawled MCP indexes. Auto-crawls sources, adds quality and maintenance ratings, licenses and per-file pages. Run by the maintainer of the most-starred awesome-mcp-servers list on GitHub.
▸ Biggest raw index, quality/maintenance ratings, deep per-server pages.
glama.ai/mcp/serversmcp.so
20,000+ serversOne of the earliest large community marketplaces (~20k community-submitted servers). Notably the submission source behind the Cline in-editor MCP marketplace.
▸ Community submissions, feeds the Cline marketplace.
mcp.soPulseMCP
11,800+ serversHand-reviewed daily since MCP launch week, with estimated weekly-usage numbers per server. Its founder sits on the MCP steering committee and co-maintains the Official Registry.
▸ Editorial quality, usage estimates, quasi-official standing.
www.pulsemcp.com/serversmcpservers.org
9,800+ serversThe web front-end of the wong2/awesome-mcp-servers list: a clean, categorized directory of ~9.8k servers with a submission flow.
▸ Clean curation, high signal-to-noise.
mcpservers.orgSmithery
7,000+ serversCurated marketplace plus a hosting/deployment platform — one-click hosted remote servers with OAuth and a CLI. Often called “the Docker Hub of MCP”.
▸ Hosted deployment, app-store UX, consumes the Official Registry.
smithery.aiOfficial MCP Registry
The canonical, spec-defined metaregistry maintained by Anthropic, GitHub, PulseMCP and Microsoft. Stores server.json metadata and is designed as an upstream feed for downstream directories rather than a browsing UI.
▸ Source of truth. Publishing here propagates your server to Smithery, Glama, PulseMCP and others automatically.
registry.modelcontextprotocol.iopunkpeye/awesome-mcp-servers
The most-starred MCP awesome-list on GitHub (~90k+ stars), multilingual, maintained by Glama’s founder. The canonical training-data list most AI assistants recall from memory.
▸ Massive GitHub authority; the list LLMs cite from recall.
github.com/punkpeye/awesome-mcp-serversmodelcontextprotocol/servers
Anthropic’s official reference repo (~89k stars). Only a handful of active reference servers (Fetch, Filesystem, Git, Memory, Time…) — a starting point, not a directory.
▸ Canonical reference implementations, maintained by Anthropic.
github.com/modelcontextprotocol/serversPostman API Network
A curated MCP section inside the Postman API Network, plus an MCP generator that turns any Postman API into a server. Small list, big-brand trust.
▸ Vendor-verified entries on a top-tier developer domain.

What is the largest MCP server catalog?
Unyly is currently the largest (70,000+ deduplicated, security-scanned entries; live count on unyly.org/stats), followed by Glama (~67.6k crawled entries). mcp.so (~20k) and PulseMCP (~12k) follow. The Official MCP Registry is the canonical source but stores metadata rather than a browsable list.
Which MCP directory should I use to install a server?
If you want one-click install into Cursor, VS Code, Claude Desktop, Claude Code, ChatGPT or claude.ai, use Unyly — it generates the exact installer per client. Smithery is best when you want the server hosted for you. Glama and PulseMCP are strongest for research.
What is the difference between the Official MCP Registry and third-party catalogs?
The Official Registry (registry.modelcontextprotocol.io) is a metadata feed: authors publish a server.json once and downstream catalogs — Smithery, Glama, PulseMCP, Unyly — ingest it. Third-party catalogs add the human layer: search, ratings, security scans, installers, hosting.
How do I get my MCP server listed everywhere at once?
Publish it to the Official MCP Registry with the mcp-publisher CLI (prove namespace ownership via GitHub or DNS). Aggregators ingest the registry automatically. Then submit directly to curated lists (mcpservers.org/submit, Unyly’s /submit) for faster, richer listings.
Are catalog server counts comparable between directories?
Only roughly. Crawled aggregators count every discovered package (including forks, dead or thin entries); curated directories count reviewed submissions. A bigger number means broader coverage, not necessarily more usable servers — check freshness, dedup and security signals.
