Dynamic Workflows

Run Claude Code-style dynamic workflows in Codex.

Dynamic workflows map

Install

codex plugin marketplace add cs50victor/dynamic_workflows_mcp
codex plugin add dynamic-workflows@dynamic-workflows

This adds the workflow tools your agent calls and the workflow skills. Verify with codex plugin list.

What it does

dynamic_workflows_mcp is a Codex plugin (and MCP server) that orchestrates many Codex subagents from a script the agent writes.

Describe a large task and the agent writes a JavaScript workflow for it, then runs it in the background. The workflow drives the subagents at scale — loops, parallel fan-out, and pipelines — and returns one structured result. The orchestration lives in code, so your session keeps only the final answer.

Reach for it when a task needs more agents than one conversation can coordinate:

  • a codebase-wide bug sweep
  • a large multi-file migration
  • research cross-checked across sources

Configuration

Env Purpose
CODEX_BIN Path to the codex binary the SDK drives.
CODEX_HOME Base directory for workflow scripts, run journals, and results.

Develop

bun install
bun test
bun run typecheck
bun run build

mcp/server.mjs is the committed bundle; rebuild it with bun run build after changing src/. End-to-end agent() calls need an authenticated codex on PATH; tests use a mock runner and never spawn Codex.
